Let me introduce myself.
I’m Michelle Melton Cox and I teach people the learnable skills to embrace their secret dream of writing a book so they can go from feeling like an imposter with a silly book idea to being an author who did the hard work and wrote the damn book.
I help people in midlife develop a sense of joy and accomplishment and improve their relationship with the passage of time because when they work with me, they avoid regret by finally writing the book they always dreamed of writing. I also have a passion for helping people in recovery turn their past pain and suffering into stories that matter. Partnering with me to get your story out into the world creates a blessing for others and allows you to take ownership of your story in new and powerful ways.
"I believe in the power of story to create joy from hardship, make peace with time, quiet fear, euthanize isolation and invite others into a community of common experience.”
You need to write your story.
You feel a tug to write. You need to write your story, but you lack confidence.
“Is my idea foolish?”
“Am I foolish for considering this”
“Do I have the skills to write a book?”
“Is it too late? Am I too old?”
“Where do I even start?”
Doubts can take over and make you want to abandon the whole thing. But the urge to write— to share the story inside of you—won’t leave you alone. I’ll help you enjoy your unearthed creativity and use your experiences for good. I’ll help you avoid a regret-fueled crisis and feel a sense of joy that you finally wrote that manuscript and can call yourself a writer.

I have been a lover of words and a professional writer my entire adult life and now I help people who want to transition from dreamers (a good thing) to doers (a better thing) with my book and story coaching services. I’m an Author Accelerator Certified Book Coach with certifications in both fiction and nonfiction. I also have a journalism degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and more than three decades of experience in writing, editing and communications.
My life experiences and my 17 years of sobriety made me believe in the power of story to create joy from hardship, make peace with time, quiet fear, euthanize isolation and create a community of common experience. I’ve experienced all of these benefits and so have my clients. They’ve gone from having a hardship in their past to having a manuscript in their hands that can help someone else feel less alone. They’ve gone from having a dream to write to calling themselves authors.
